Title: Developing Supervision Skills

Duration: 3 days (2 + 1 follow up)

Learning Objectives:

Aim: To provide a practical framework for the delivery of supervision and a range of tools for the supervisor to use in the development of supervisees.

By the end of the course participants will:

  1. Understand the relationship between supervision, practice and outcomes

  2. Understand the purpose and function of supervision

  3. Understand and explore the rights, responsibilities and roles of the supervisor & supervisee and to be able to negotiate a supervision agreement

  4. Understand how previous experiences, values and knowledge influence the response of supervisees to supervision

  5. Understand the 4x4x4 model of supervision and it's implications for practice

  6. Understand and be able to apply the Kolb reflective cycle in supervision

  7. Be able to understand ways in which the supervisee can become "stuck" and how supervision can be used to unblock

  8. Be able to identify their own strengths and issues in the role of supervisee and identify actions he/she can take to improve his/her contribution to the supervision process

  9. Complete two tasks between part 1 and 2 of the course.

All training is delivered within a framework of anti-oppressive practice.
